About Me

Over the course of my career, I graduated from my holiday job counting jelly beans in the Aulesbrooks Confectionery Factory, to bean-counting as a Chartered Accountant. I’ve overseen all aspects of running a company. Founded my own accounting firm, audited businesses and held people accountable over a wide range of industries, and I’m now near the top of one of Christchurch’s premier business Chartered Accountancy firms.

“Some people think accounting is all about numbers. It’s actually about people, and helping them achieve and manage their success.” He saw a lot of success playing for the Shirley Boys High School First XV, which was a big part of his childhood. Recognizing the importance sport can play in the community, he started giving back to the game many years ago by becoming a referee.

Over the years I have received a number of accolades, including becoming a Paul Harris Fellow for meritorious service to New Zealand Rotary and being honoured as a Distinguished Member of Toastmasters International.

“For me, Toastmasters was about improving myself by becoming a better leader and businessman. I joined Rotary to improve the lives of others, and make a difference in the community.”

Alan has also improved the lives of animals across Christchurch during three decades of being a member of the Canterbury SPCA. For almost 2 years he served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Canterbury SPCA, and currently, holds a seat on the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAWAC). Through NAWAC, Alan advises the Minister for Primary Industries about issues to animal welfare and recommends any law changes to the Minister.

He loves his two cats, Maisy and Lucy, both of whom he adopted from the SPCA. There’s also a budgie called Floppy, who was named by a visiting Rotary Youth Exchange Student from Argentina. Taking care of birds and animals has played a large part of Alan’s family life over the past 50 years. His unique life experiences allow Alan to share a wealth of relevant and interesting anecdotes that will keep your audience captivated.
